Trustpilot

With the wearable electric breast pump from LIINI®, you can express milk while you work, take a call or sit on the sofa. It sits in your bra without a cord, with no tubes and no socket needed. A 1,800 mAh battery powers it, and your breast milk flows straight into the 180 ml container.

Hands-free breast pump: how it works

A hands-free breast pump combines the motor, breast shield and collection container in one device. You place it in your bra, which holds it in position, and operate it with four touch buttons. The LIINI® pump works in two modes, each with 5 levels:

  • Stimulation mode: It starts with gentler suction, from 45 mmHg at level 1 to 120 mmHg at level 5.
  • Expression mode: After 2 minutes, the pump switches over automatically. Here the suction ranges from 120 mmHg at level 1 to 247.5 mmHg at level 5.

Start on a low level and only increase it for as long as it feels comfortable. According to LIINI, the pump is quieter than 50 dB, roughly as quiet as a whisper. If your bra feels too tight with the pump in it, the included bra extender helps.

Wearable or traditional breast pump? How they compare

Besides wearable pumps, there are tabletop electric pumps with tubing, and manual pumps. Each type has its place:

Typical useeveryday life, work, on the gofrequent or exclusive pumping, often rentedoccasional pumping

If you pump exclusively, for example because your baby doesn't feed at the breast, a rented tabletop pump can make sense. It's best to talk this through with your midwife or lactation consultant. For everyday life, going back to work or building up a small supply, a wearable breast pump is practical, because you can carry on with whatever you're doing.

Which flange size fits?

What matters isn't your breast size, but the diameter of your nipple. Measure it at the base of the nipple, without the areola. The LIINI® pump comes with three nipple inserts and a silicone cushion:

Nipple diameterMatching insert
11–13 mm15 mm nipple insert
13–15 mm17 mm nipple insert
15–19 mm21 mm nipple insert
over 19 mm25 mm silicone cushion

If your nipple rubs against the side of the flange, or a lot of the areola is drawn in, try a different size. A lactation consultant or midwife can help you measure.

Expressing and storing breast milk

A few basic rules help keep expressed breast milk fresh:

  • Wash your hands before pumping.
  • Clean all parts that come into contact with milk after every session. A cleaning brush is included.
  • Pour the milk into clean containers that seal, and label them with the date.
  • Store it at the back of the fridge, not in the door.
  • Never refreeze milk that has been thawed.

Advice on how long breast milk keeps in the fridge or freezer varies. Ask your midwife or lactation consultant to explain the times that are right for you. To find out how to warm expressed milk gently later on, read our guide Warming breast milk on the go.

Accessories, spare parts and double set

The valve, membrane and nipple inserts wear out over time, and a second container is handy for building up a supply. You can buy everything individually under breast pump accessories and spare parts. If you want to pump both sides at the same time, you need two pumps: the LIINI® Easy Pump Boobies Bundle contains two pumps and costs less than buying two separately. The warranty is 24 months from receipt of your order; the battery counts as a wearing part.

Frequently asked questions

When can I start pumping?

That depends on your breastfeeding situation. Especially in the first few weeks, while your milk supply is settling in, it's best to discuss when to start with your midwife or lactation consultant. They can also help you find a rhythm that works for you.

Does pumping hurt?

Pumping shouldn't hurt. A pulling feeling or pain can be a sign that the flange size isn't right or the level is too high. Start on a low level and check whether the nipple insert fits your nipple. If the pain continues, talk to your midwife or lactation consultant.

Can I pump both sides at once with a wearable pump?

Yes, with two pumps, one for each breast. Every LIINI® pump has its own battery and a 180 ml container. The Easy Pump Boobies Bundle gets you two pumps together for less.

How loud is the LIINI pump?

According to LIINI, it's quieter than 50 dB, roughly as quiet as a whisper. So you can pump even when it's quiet around you, for example in the office or on the sofa in the evening.

Can I take the breast pump on a plane?

Yes. According to LIINI, it's approved for hand luggage on all flights, and LIINI provides an IATA travel confirmation. Even so, check your airline's rules before you fly, especially for carrying breast milk.

How do I clean a wearable pump?

After every session, take apart the parts that come into contact with breast milk, such as the container, valve and insert, and clean them thoroughly. The included cleaning brush helps with hard-to-reach spots. The user manual explains how to look after the pump housing with the battery.
